4 v 4 is the smallest form of football that relates directly to the 11 v 11 game. Plenty of space, maximum touches and regulation size goals make this perfect for development & fun!

The most important part of a kids’ football journey is to ensure they retain the love of ‘playing’ the game. Potential & ability are irrelevant if they are not enjoying the process. 70% of kids dropout of competitive sport by the age of 13, due to pressure, boredom & burn-out. You need to strike the right balance.

STRIKING THE RIGHT BALANCE

Compare your own football journey to your kids - As societal norms have evolved, the experience of a child's football journey has also transformed. Unstructured Park football with friends in a pressure-free environment has been replaced with additional technical development, competitive matches, ball mastery & training apps!

THE IMPORTANCE OF ‘PLAY’.

Consequently, kids are losing their passion for the game at an early age. Football is becoming overly serious too quickly, and children lack the opportunity to simply enjoy playing the sport.

The balance between technical development, team training, game-time, and fun is misaligned. Kids need to be treated as kids. Failing to find enjoyment in the journey can make it challenging to reach and maintain their full potential and the love of playing.

RETAIN THE LOVE OF THE SPORT

Sue Parris

Emotional welfare specialist working in pro-football.

‘With freedom and without fear’ is the perfect environment for children to thrive. As parents, carers, coaches, and the football community, this should be our collective responsibility. When we deprive children of their innate drive to freely create and develop, and instead impose a fear of judgment and the need to please the adults around them, the result is disengaged, anxious, and stifled children. Is this the type of "playing" you remember from your own childhood?’

Dr Scott Whitfield

BPS Chartered Sport Psychologist, and owner of High Performing Parents.

“Personally a story that rings true with myself. A kid with potential but on reflection the love of the game was lost when everything became too serious too early and a few years down the line I burnt out. I’m unsure what the statistics are surrounding drop out but from a professional point of view, am aware that research suggests two amongst a number of reasons why children drop out from sport are a lack of enjoyment and social pressures.”
